Luke Sharratt

Luke Sharratt is a 24-year-old photographer from London who created his series  "Magic Levitation" to showcase his ability to make people appear to levitation (refer to the first and second image for two pictures of his work). Luke creates videos while he edits his photos to show others his process, using the app Snapheal on Mac to create his images. Two of his big tips for others include using Snapheal to erase whatever the focus of the photo is on and don't forget about the photo as a whole when the editing is done. He suggests using the editing tools "sparingly" because you will be "dazzled by the results" in using minimum touchups to enhance the focus. Although his levitation work is stunning, it is not his main focus as a photographer.  He describes himself as a conceptual photographer, which is a type of photography that illustrates an idea, and he loves it due to the fact he can create scenarios that would be impossible in standard photography and he can let his imagination run wild. His concepts come from movies and artwork primarily, though he describes it as "whatever is fresh on my mind". Planning, he says, rarely sticks due to the fact his end product is almost never what he first thought it would be because he likes to "change it up" and "keep things spontaneous". I chose to study Luke's work because of how whimsical and free it seems. All his images have great motion and wonder to them which I absolutely love and hope to replicate in my work. I found it interesting one of his main focuses for photographers learning from him was not just the levitation part but the image as a whole. It's important that the focus be perfect, but also the background which is something people tend to forget and lose sight of.
